The latest beta build takes aim at hunter pets. The backdrop is steady community feedback: pet abilities like Dismember and Sonic Blast gave hunters so much control and utility that "the pet is half a class" became a running complaint in PvP discussions. This round of nerfs is substantial.

The changes (from the build's data)

  • Dismember: the healing-reduction effect drops from 50% for 10 seconds to 25% for 6 seconds, and the cooldown rises from 6 to 15 seconds (applied across all ranks);
  • Sonic Blast and similar abilities were adjusted in the same pass — all flagged as "too similar to other classes' abilities";
  • Furious Howl's text in the new data reads "increases the melee attack power of all party or raid members within 15 yards" — consistent with last round's raid-wide buff direction.

What it means

Healing reduction is one of the hardest control effects in PvP: 50% for 10 seconds on a 6-second cooldown was close to permanent pressure. Cut to 25% for 6 seconds on a 15-second cooldown, pet-driven healing reduction becomes a "use it at the right moment" tool instead of a standing aura. Wowhead's read: the abilities remain strong, but warriors, warlocks and other classes — especially in PvP — get visible room back.

For hunters: PvE output is untouched (the changes target utility effects and cooldowns), but PvP reliance on healing reduction needs a rethink — save it for the moment that matters rather than pressing on cooldown. For everyone else: expect fewer scenes where a pet shuts down your healer.

Values are as per client data; if further builds adjust the pet's role, we will follow in changes.
