Two items that teach new housing exterior customizations showed up in Patch 12.1.7 PTR build 70668, which MMO-Champion reported deployed to the test realms at 11:03 p.m. UTC on October 29 (7:03 a.m. October 30, Beijing time); the previous builds were 70424 and 70493. Wowhead's write-up landed four minutes later (6:07 p.m. Central October 29, news ID 383660), and its new-items list supplies the names: Cozy Cabin Burrow (item 289445) and Icy Cabin Burrow (item 289446).

That is where the confirmed facts stop. Per Wowhead: "Neither item currently has a source, and the appearances of both are encrypted, so we can't see what they look like." Shop, quest, or vendor — the datamine doesn't say. Blizzard has published nothing about either item, and Patch 12.1.7 has no release date. One scope note first: this is retail housing news from the Midnight expansion line, a different system from WoW: Forever — the permanent classic-level realm this site covers, which launches globally at 3:00 p.m. PDT November 4 (November 5, Beijing time).

Why two invisible items matter: the names match the cabin shop decor from two days earlier

Wowhead considers it "highly likely" that the two exteriors are linked to the cozy cabin decor datamined in a prior 12.1.7 build. That decor surfaced on October 28 (news ID 383593): shop-sourced, winter-cabin themed, with a set of string lights the report flagged as pieces that "could become heavily used" in home design. That same article noted there was "no current indication of exterior themes to go with it." Two days later, exterior items carrying the same names appeared in a build.

The datamined cabin decor is listed with the in-game shop as its source, and Wowhead observes that players "have been very vocal" about wanting to earn these customizations in-game rather than buy them. Which leaves the open question of where the burrows come from. The report keeps both doors open — the Cozy and Icy cabins may be tied to an upcoming shop pack, "but it's equally possible" they arrive from the same neighborhood vendors that sell the Autumnal and Springtime Westfall Barn Facade Plans. The vendor route is not wishful thinking; those barn facades really are sold by neighborhood vendors.

Winter Veil and theatre: the other two decor lists in the same PTR run

Winter Veil. The first link inside MMO-Champion's build post points to its own piece, "New Winter Veil Housing Decor in Patch 12.1.7" — that is where the Winter Veil decor list lives (this article verified only that piece's title and link, not its contents). On the activity side, Wowhead datamined Winter Veil neighborhood content for 12.1.7 on October 25 (news ID 383562): a Tree Defense activity with power-ups and something called a Rotten Pummeler, achievements for punting 100 tree attackers, getting pummeled 10 times yourself, and returning stolen festive presents, plus daily quests to ring bells alongside the neighborhood carolers and deliver 12 Candy Cane gifts. The achievements are account-wide. When Winter Veil starts has not been announced.

Theatre. On October 27 (news ID 383512), Wowhead reported theatre-themed decor for 12.1.7: a batch of new curtains sold by vendors in the Player Housing neighborhoods that appear to support dyes, and stage backdrops taken straight from the Opera Event in Karazhan. Those backdrops are "likely going to be new additions to Burning Crusade Timewalking" — Wowhead's wording, not an official statement — which would make them a Timewarped Badge farm.

Known and unknown

Known, with sources:

  • Build 70668 is on the 12.1.7 PTR (MMO-Champion, 7:03 a.m. Beijing time October 30); prior builds 70424 and 70493
  • New items Cozy Cabin Burrow (289445) and Icy Cabin Burrow (289446), with no listed source and encrypted appearances (Wowhead, verbatim)
  • Cabin-themed shop decor (Oct 28), theatre curtains and Karazhan stage backdrops (Oct 27), Winter Veil neighborhood activity achievements (Oct 25) — four datamine reports across Wowhead and MMO-Champion that line up chronologically
  • The 12.1.7 PTR went live this week alongside the Talebound demo (Blizzard's development notes, relayed by Wowhead)

Not announced:

  • How the two cabin exteriors will be obtained — shop pack or neighborhood vendor; Wowhead lists both as possibilities and neither is confirmed
  • Whether a shop pack exists, and what it would cost
  • What the exteriors actually look like (encrypted)
  • The Patch 12.1.7 release date; the start of Winter Veil and the Timewalking rotation
  • Any official localized names for any of the above

What you can do now

  • Hold off on any cabin-decor purchase: right now it exists only in a datamine and a guess; there is no shop-pack announcement to check against, so wait for the source to be confirmed
  • If you'd rather not pay, keep an eye on neighborhood vendors — the Westfall barn facade precedent makes the vendor route genuinely plausible
  • If the Karazhan stage backdrops are your draw and Wowhead's guess holds, start stacking Timewarped Badges when Burning Crusade Timewalking rotates back in
  • Decor content will keep landing with PTR builds; following MMO-Champion's build posts and Wowhead's datamine reports is the fastest way to track it — and the patch date itself, whenever Blizzard gets around to announcing it
