The conclusion first: racial traits in Forever — the Chinese server's "Wuxian" — are not a straight copy of vanilla 60. Placing our compiled official data side by side with 1.12, none of the ten races is a carbon copy — some changes are numeric re-works, others replace entire traits. This article compares race by race, and both sides stick to openable sources: the Forever side is beta 1.60.1 (launching 2026-11-04; live values take precedence), the vanilla 60 side is 1.12 — the foundation of today's permanent level-60 servers. Entries missing from the compiled data are described as "not listed" rather than declared removed. Use the "On this page" selector above to jump straight to a race.
First, the structure: from a grab-bag to "2 actives + 2 passives"
Vanilla 1.12 gives each race 4–5 traits of mixed character: small combat numbers (Sword Specialization +5 skill, Quickness +1% dodge), lifestyle traits (Find Treasure, Cannibalize), plus a +10 elemental resistance per race. The whole thing reads as "flavor first, combat second".
Forever's ten races are instead a tidy 2 actives + 2 passives each: the actives are all real combat buttons, the passives all hard numbers. Races have gone from flavor labels to part of your build — that is the lens for everything below.
Human (Alliance)
| Forever trait | Effect | Its vanilla 1.12 counterpart |
|---|---|---|
| Will to Survive | Removes stun effects | Vanilla humans had no escape active at all; the name comes from the later 8.0 human active |
| Perception | Detects stealth for 20 sec | Same name, same effect (20 sec, 3 min cooldown) — kept as is |
| Sword Specialization | +2% crit with swords | Sword/Two-Handed Sword skill +5; skill becomes crit |
| The Human Spirit | +5% Spirit | Same name, same value — kept |
Commentary: one active slot is new and one is kept — Perception survives unchanged, while Will to Survive fills the control-cleanse slot vanilla humans never had. Vanilla's Diplomacy (+10% reputation) and Mace Specialization (+5 skill) do not appear in the compiled data.
Dwarf (Alliance)
| Forever trait | Effect | Its vanilla 1.12 counterpart |
|---|---|---|
| Stoneform | Removes and grants immunity to bleeding, poison and disease; physical damage taken -10% for 8 sec | Same name: immunity to bleeding/poison/disease plus +10% armor for 8 sec; armor becomes all-out physical reduction, and existing effects are explicitly removed |
| Find Treasure | Shows nearby treasure on the minimap | Same name — kept |
| Big Game Hunter | +5% damage to beasts | These are vanilla troll Beast Slaying numbers — migrated across races |
| Mace Specialization | +1% crit with maces | Vanilla dwarves had Gun Specialization +5; mace skill (+5) belonged to humans |
Commentary: the fun one is Big Game Hunter — the troll workhorse passive moved to dwarves, and paired with the new Dwarf Shaman combo it lifts the Alliance's leveling game against beasts. Vanilla's Gun Specialization and Frost Resistance +10 do not appear in the compiled data.
Night Elf (Alliance)
| Forever trait | Effect | Its vanilla 1.12 counterpart |
|---|---|---|
| Elune's Light | +10% crit for 15 sec | Brand-new active: vanilla night elves had no combat active at all |
| Shadowmeld | Enter stealth while stationary | Same name — kept |
| Quickness | +2% dodge, +2% movement speed | +1% dodge, no speed — doubled and then some |
| Wisp Spirit | +75% ghost speed | Same name: +50% |
Commentary: night elves are the "kept flavor, amplified numbers" case — Shadowmeld untouched, Quickness and Wisp Spirit buffed, plus a short-cooldown burst active from nowhere. Vanilla's Nature Resistance +10 does not appear in the compiled data.
Gnome (Alliance)
| Forever trait | Effect | Its vanilla 1.12 counterpart |
|---|---|---|
| Escape Artist | Removes and grants immunity to snare/root effects for 5 sec | Same name: removes only, no immunity window |
| Eureka! | Reduces the cost of your next 3 spells and increases their damage/healing by 10% | Brand-new active; in beta it scaled by resource up to -50%, then was unified to -10% in the 9/26 build (see our beta balancing article) |
| Engineering Specialization | Reduces engineering gadget malfunctions | Vanilla was +15 Engineering skill |
| Expansive Mind | +5% max mana/rage/energy | Same name, but vanilla gave +5% Intellect — from caster-only to every class's resource |
Commentary: both gnome passives changed meaning — Expansive Mind went caster-only to all-resource, and Engineering went skill points to malfunction reduction. Eureka! is a brand-new active and took the hardest nerf of the beta. Vanilla's Arcane Resistance +10 does not appear in the compiled data.
Orc (Horde)
| Forever trait | Effect | Its vanilla 1.12 counterpart |
|---|---|---|
| Blood Fury | +10% attack power and spell power for 15 sec | Vanilla: +25% base melee attack power for 15 sec with a -50% healing-received side effect, and no spell power — Forever drops the downside and adds spell power |
| Shatter Curse | Immune to curses with reduced magic damage taken, 8 sec | Brand-new active; vanilla orcs had nothing like it |
| Axe Specialization | +1% crit with axes | Axe skill +5 |
| Hardiness | Stun duration -20% | Vanilla was a +25% chance to resist stuns; the "duration -20%" wording matches modern retail |
Commentary: orcs are the poster child of "probability to certainty" — a 25% resist chance became a reliable 20% duration cut, and Blood Fury turned from a double-edged burst into a clean dual-strength buff. The new Shatter Curse fills the defensive-active gap. Vanilla's Command (+5% pet damage) does not appear in the compiled data.
Undead (Horde)
| Forever trait | Effect | Its vanilla 1.12 counterpart |
|---|---|---|
| Will of the Forsaken | Removes Charm, Fear and Sleep effects | Vanilla granted 20 seconds of immunity (2 min cooldown, usable while feared) — from "immunity" to "removal", mirroring the later rework |
| Cannibalize | Devour a corpse: restore 7% health and mana every 2 sec for 10 sec | Vanilla restored health only; Forever adds mana |
| Underwater Breathing | +300% underwater breath | Same value — kept |
| Touch of the Grave | Attacks have a 5% chance to drain life (up to 5% of maximum health) | Brand-new passive, sharing its name with the later MoP undead passive |
Commentary: Will of the Forsaken went from a 20-second immunity powerhouse to a plain dispel — a narrowing on paper, but it serves the new combo: an undead paladin carries the cleanse plus plate and healing, and the matchup math changes completely. Cannibalize gaining mana is real leveling sustain for healer classes. Vanilla's Shadow Resistance +10 does not appear in the compiled data.
Tauren (Horde)
| Forever trait | Effect | Its vanilla 1.12 counterpart |
|---|---|---|
| War Stomp | Area stun for 2 sec | Same name and effect — kept (vanilla: 8 yd, 2 sec, 2 min cooldown) |
| Cultivation | Active: accelerates the growth of herb nodes | Vanilla was a passive +15 Herbalism skill |
| Endurance | +5% health, +1% hit | The +5% health stays, with hit added |
| Plainsrunning | Movement speed builds as you keep moving, up to +30% | The tauren level-40 quest ability cut from the 2004 beta comes back to life — back then it kicked in after 10 seconds of running, and Forever's "builds over time" matches it |
Commentary: War Stomp survives intact; the real story is Plainsrunning — a mechanic present in the original beta, cut before launch, now revived with even the "run for a while first" rhythm reproduced. It is hard evidence that Forever mines scrapped history for design. Vanilla's Nature Resistance +10 does not appear in the compiled data.
Troll (Horde)
| Forever trait | Effect | Its vanilla 1.12 counterpart |
|---|---|---|
| Berserking | +10% casting and attack speed for about 10 sec | Vanilla scaled 10%–30% with missing health — the condition and the ceiling are both gone |
| Rapid Regeneration | Restores 50% of maximum health over a short time | Brand-new active |
| Beast Slaying | +5% damage to beasts | Same name — kept (note dwarves got the same numbers as Big Game Hunter) |
| Regeneration | +10% health regeneration, active in combat | Vanilla gave +10% but only 10% of it continued in combat; Forever's note reads "works in combat" — exact terms to be confirmed at launch |
Commentary: trolls took the deepest structural changes: Berserking turned from a low-health burst into a steady small speed-up, and Rapid Regeneration hands trolls a self-heal active vanilla never had. Vanilla's Bow/Throwing Specialization +5 does not appear in the compiled data.
Skyborne: a brand-new race with no vanilla counterpart
| Skyborne trait | Variant | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Walk on Air | Both variants | Slow-fall glide for 10 sec |
| Wind Blessed | Both variants | +1% haste |
| Elemental Insight | Both variants | +5% damage to elementals |
| Read Ley Line | Alliance High Order only | +100% health and mana regeneration for 15 sec |
| Skysight | Horde Windshaper only | Elemental blessing: +10% movement speed |
A detail worth noting: "haste" does not exist on a vanilla 60 character sheet at all (the word arrived with TBC), yet Skyborne writes it straight into a racial passive — this race was never designed in 1.12 vocabulary.
Six new combos: paladins and shaman no longer faction-locked
Six new race-class combinations are officially announced and confirmed by three sources: Human Hunter, Dwarf Shaman, Gnome Priest, Orc Mage, Troll Warlock and Undead Paladin.
The faction implications matter most: in vanilla 60 paladins were Alliance-only and shaman Horde-only; Forever gives the Alliance Dwarf Shamans and the Horde Undead Paladins. Druids expand from two races to four (both Skyborne variants can be one). Read alongside the racials it all clicks: an Undead Paladin holds Will of the Forsaken's cleanse behind plate and healing, an Orc Mage pops a side-effect-free Blood Fury that also boosts spell power — the new combos and the reworked traits were designed together.
What you are actually weighing when you pick a race
No tier lists — just the trade-offs visible in the data:
- Leveling sustain: undead Cannibalize restores mana, trolls gain Rapid Regeneration, gnome Eureka! discounts spell costs (freshly unified to -10% in beta);
- Control and escapes: Will to Survive, Hardiness, Escape Artist and Will of the Forsaken all moved from "probability/immunity" shapes to more certain ones, and PvP matchups need recalibrating;
- Output passives: human swords +2% crit outrank orc axe/dwarf mace +1%, tauren add a hit line — differences that used to live in the weapon-skill system now arrive as direct crit/hit.
Our talent simulator runs on the same racial data as this article, and beta respecs cost 1 silver — go test your pick directly. For the class side of the Undead Paladin, continue with Paladin Specs Compared.
Official racial trait change log
Below are the officially traceable racial changes and milestones of the beta, newest first; future build adjustments will be added at the top of the table. The official site's build reports and bug-fix posts contain no racial entries so far — racial records live in the blue posts and the official database, which is exactly why this table collects them.
| Date | Change | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 2026-09-24 | Build 1.60.1.70009: the gnome racial Eureka! reworked. The official database currently reads "your next 3 damaging abilities have their Energy cost reduced by 10% and deal 10% more damage", flagged as "description reworded, dispel type magic removed"; the earlier per-resource tiers (Energy -20% / Rage -40% / caster DPS -50% / healers -15%) were unified to the 10% band. The before/after comparison comes from community datamine reporting, published by Wowhead on 09-25. | Official: official spell record, official changelog (69977→70009); supplementary: Wowhead datamine report |
| 2026-09-22 | Official site publishes the full race-class combo list: confirming the 6 new combos and the class lists of both Skyborne variants — one of the three sources behind this article's racial table. | Official: site news post |
| c. 2026-09-14 | Deep Dive Panel lays out the racial rework: traits redesigned to be "stronger, more distinct, more meaningful, without pushing every race toward the same strengths", fixed at 4 traits per race; six new race-class combos announced with "more planned". Undead details from the same panel: Will of the Forsaken keeps the removal but loses immunity; Cannibalize adds mana restoration (a boon for mana classes like mages, warlocks, paladins and priests); Underwater Breathing unchanged; new passive Touch of the Grave gives attacks a chance to drain life. | Official: Blizzard News post; mirror: Wowhead blue post |
Two reading notes: ① dates marked "c." follow the official publication time (the Blizzard News page exposes no structured date; this one is inferred from the concurrent BlizzCon roundup), and ② datamined before/after comparisons may still change before launch — live values take precedence after 2026-11-04.
