The riddle showed up before the game did. On episode six of the official WoW: Forever podcast, the familiar board behind Josh "Aggrend" Greenfield now carries a line of Darnassian: SHEN'SERRAR LEZAL MELOR'NA ADALA FAL. Players on Reddit and the forums have spent the last two days pulling it apart, and their leading guess is a hidden-weapon tease planted ahead of launch. The episode went up on October 29, and Wowhead wrote the riddle up on October 31 at 13:00 ET (02:00 Beijing on November 1); Blizzard has not confirmed a single word of what it means.

Five words, four translated

A forum post splits it like this: Shen'Serrar, "Hidden Blade." "Shen" means hidden — a word players first picked up when Forever introduced the Skyborne content — and "Serrar" means blade, straight out of Quel'Serrar, the epic sword veterans know by heart.

The back half of the line fits too. The Darnassian entry on Warcraft Wiki renders shanna melor'ne adal fal as the truth is a guiding light, and slotting that pattern onto MELOR'NA ADALA FAL puts the ending somewhere around a guiding-light phrase. The forum post's guessed reading for the whole line: "The Hidden Blade is the guiding light."

One word remains unclaimed: LEZAL. Nobody has a translation for it yet.

First test site: 40-player Onyxia on December 9

The other half of the guess comes from the official schedule: the first three raids — Barrow Deeps (10-player), Hyjal Summit (20-player) and Onyxia (40-player) — all open on December 9, Beijing time. Quel'Serrar is the sword warriors and paladins originally earned inside Onyxia's lair, through a quest line that starts with the Foror's Compendium drop. If Hidden Blade turns out to be real, the first people positioned to find clues are the ones walking into Onyxia's lair on December 9 — and warriors and paladins still have the old quest line to compare against.

Blizzard hasn't said a word

Whether the board is a tease at all, and whether Hidden Blade ever exists in-game, is not announced — Wowhead's own headline is a question mark. The game isn't live yet, so even the Secret Finding Discord, the community's dedicated secret-hunting crew, can only get so far: most verification has to wait for servers to open on November 5 (Beijing calendar). Treat "new weapon" as community speculation for now — fun to follow, but don't build your leveling plans around it.

What you can do

  • After launch on November 5, keep an eye on night-elf NPC text and item names — if Hidden Blade is a real weapon, the name will surface in-game eventually, and you can verify it yourself.
  • On December 9, the 40-player Onyxia raid is the first place worth checking; warriors and paladins should bring the old Quel'Serrar quest line as a reference script.
  • For live progress, the Secret Finding Discord is where the decoding happens — the join link is at the end of the Wowhead item.

And one thing not to forget: name reservation closes at 23:59 Beijing time on November 3. The riddle can wait — a taken name can't.
