If you were holding out for a couch-and-controller version of WoW: Forever, that door stays shut on November 5. Xbox UK's official account pulled the game from its post listing games coming to Xbox in November and posted a correction: WoW: Forever is not available on Xbox. The only way into the game is Battle.net, on PC and Mac.

The mix-up started with a routine roundup. Xbox UK posted a list of games being added to Xbox in November, and WoW: Forever appeared in the accompanying image. Players archived the post on Reddit and X, and console-port speculation took off. The post was then removed and replaced with a version that no longer listed WoW: Forever, and Xbox UK followed up with a correction: the game is only available via Battle.net on PCs and Macs. Gamepad support is not a console port

The guess was easy to make, because WoW: Forever does support controllers. But that support lives in the PC and Mac client — those are the only two platforms the game ships on, so your controller plugs into your computer. An Xbox pad works fine on a PC; what you won't find on the box under your TV on November 5 is any client to click.

What's still not announced

The correction answers one question — is there a console version now — and the answer is no for the November launch. Nothing in it commits to, or rules out, a console version down the line: Wowhead's read is that it ends the console theory "for now." Blizzard has not posted a platform statement of its own; the confirmation came from Xbox UK's social account rather than a first-party Blizzard announcement.

Three things to do before launch

  • Make sure the Battle.net client runs on your PC or Mac today — it's the only way into the game on November 5, and troubleshooting goes worse under launch-day pressure.
  • Controller players, keep your pad for the computer: gamepad support still works in the PC/Mac client, no hardware change needed.
  • Character name reservation closes at 23:59 Beijing time tonight, November 3. Reservation has nothing to do with consoles either — don't wait for launch day to grab your name.
