At PAX Australia 2026, creators got the chance to interview Blizzard's Holly Longdale and Clay Stone, and Fiamma has published her full interview on her YouTube channel. Here are the takeaways that matter most for WoW: Forever players.

Cross-region play: wanted, but not there yet

Asked about cross-region servers, the developers did not dodge the hard part: this is Blizzard's first attempt at a realmless architecture, where players no longer pick a specific server and only choose a ruleset. It is working really well on the Beta, but this is as far as they can take it right now. In their own words, it is not that they don't want to try it — they need time.

Character caps: undecided and unannounced

How many characters will each account be allowed on WoW: Forever at launch? The number has not been announced. Longdale confirmed there are technical limits and the team has not settled on a final figure yet. Players planning to stockpile characters will have to wait for an official answer.

Will Forever features flow back to retail?

Asked whether Forever features such as the transmog changes could come to retail, Longdale's answer was an immediate "yes". What needs to be discussed is what is appropriate for each game, and she will talk with Ion about it.

Where the feedback comes from

The two developers say they watch every feedback venue: Reddit, forums, social media, YouTube videos and their comment sections. The big topics have all reached them; the questions are priority, how quickly they can get to them, and whether they agree it is the right call for the game. There is internal feedback too — Blizzard employs massive collectors, and on the Forever team some developers play more retail than Classic.

Trivia and art style

Clay Stone plays an Orc and his favorite mount is the Dire Wolf; Longdale's current favorite is the Friendship Fox. She started playing at launch and was in the WoW beta; Clay started in 2006, just before The Burning Crusade. On art, Forever follows a different art and training path than retail, with plenty of mentoring and talent development along the way.
