Fresh off the December 9 raid announcement, Blizzard has answered the question veteran players care about most: Molten Core will not be a straight copy-paste. On the official podcast, senior game designer Josh "Aggrend" Greenfield confirmed that older raids like Molten Core will have new mechanics players never saw in 2004 — or in Classic 2019.

The exchange

Someone asked the pointed question: will new raids get "sick new encounters with fun new mechanics" while Molten Core stays in "pedestrian mode"? Aggrend's answer:

"I think it's probably safe to say you're not just going to stand there and tank and spank Golemagg, for example; there may be a little more to it.... I believe we used the term 'revamped' or 'reimagined' at BlizzCon."

Why

Per the report, Blizzard wants to avoid a jarring transition — going from brand-new raid content in the Hyjal raids back to the same-old Molten Core that players have "functionally solved already" would feel anticlimactic.

What we do and don't know

What's confirmed: new mechanics exist in the plan, using the words "revamped" and "reimagined". What isn't: which bosses change, how deeply, and whether the loot table moves with it — none of that has been revealed. Strategy writers should discount their old MC homework accordingly; we will follow updates in the raids section and changes.
