Scope: This is a Classic route reference, not a fully tested Forever route. Verify recipe thresholds, quantities, yields and Legacy effects in the current client before buying materials.
The most-overhauled profession in Forever
Leather armor, quivers and drums — leatherworking received the most new recipes of any profession: 289 (beta datamining). With low-level reworks in the pile, more of what you craft while leveling is actually wearable at your level instead of pure skill-padding.
It pairs naturally with Skinning: self-fed leather makes the marginal cost of leveling nearly zero. See Skinning 1-300.
The 1-300 route
Tier gates: Apprentice 5 (75), Journeyman 10 (150), Expert 20 (225), Artisan 35 (300). Same rule: switch outputs when the bracket turns green. Representative recipes (classic 1.12 base):

Three habits: when Thick Leather runs short at 150+, farm the dense beast zones (STV tigers, Badlands beasts); the dragon-scale branch (250+ plans) is a side quest — keep the 300 main line moving; drums and quivers hold auction-house value, so your leveling output rarely sells at a loss.

Bountiful Harvest (double rare pelts — doubled again if you skin yourself), Working Overtime (+4-20% skill-up chance), Performance Bonus (crate turn-ins for Merchant's Favor — with 289 new recipes to collect, that currency matters), and the certification title at 300. Full table on the Legacy page.
