Scope: This is a Classic route reference, not a fully tested Forever route. Verify recipe thresholds, quantities, yields and Legacy effects in the current client before buying materials.

Is Herbalism worth it in Forever?

Yes — it is the cheapest primary profession: no recipes to buy, you level it while questing, and every herb either feeds Alchemy or sells on the auction house. Forever adds two new layers on top:

  • Gathering manual: a starting-zone quest hands you the Wild Harvest manual, which teaches Herbalism and grants +2 skill (up to 15) — no need to visit a trainer first.
  • Legacy "Bountiful Harvest": each rank raises rare material output from Mining, Herbalism and Skinning by 20/40/60/80/100%. Maxed out, rare herbs like Dreamfoil and Mountain Silversage basically drop double.

The 1-300 route

Forever's tier gates match Classic: Apprentice at level 5 (cap 75), Journeyman 10 (150), Expert 20 (225), Artisan 35 (300). For gathering professions there is exactly one rule: pick the right-colored herbs in the right-level zone. A gather grants 1-3 skill points depending on color; grey gives none.

Two speed tips: move on before herbs turn grey — before 300 your time is worth more than the herbs — and always grab Black Lotus, it is a world rare.

Pair it with leveling

The lowest-effort plan is to train Herbalism alongside questing: the 1-60 zone progression covers every skill bracket. See our leveling page for the zone plan; the two detours worth making are Stranglethorn at 150-190 (Goldthorn) and Un'Goro at 240+.

Don't skip the Legacy tree

Beyond Bountiful Harvest: Working Overtime (+4-20% chance to gain a skill point on any tradeskill use) and Dedicated Study (once per day, +1 to your lowest tradeskill). Full tree on the Legacy page.
