Scope: This is a Classic route reference, not a fully tested Forever route. Verify recipe thresholds, quantities, yields and Legacy effects in the current client before buying materials.
The chillest secondary that still pays
No gates, no material cost — cast and level. Fishing's value is the fish: Stonescale Eels feed alchemy's raid potions, Winter Squid / Night Fin are raid food, small fish feed Cooking. Forever's boost:
- Luremaster (Legacy professions line): while a lure is active, a 25-50% chance to catch an extra fish — a straight doubling tier for idle sessions.
- 3 new recipes (beta datamining): the least-changed profession; classic routes apply as-is.
The 1-300 route
Fishing cares only about water tier, not character level: fish each water until grey, then move on. Classic-base brackets:
| Skill | Where | Catch |
|---|---|---|
| 1-75 | Starting zones and capital waters | Small fish (feeds Cooking 1-50) |
| 75-150 | Barrens coast, Loch Modan | Mid-tier fish and shellfish |
| 150-225 | Thousand Needles, STV coasts | Upper-mid fish |
| 225-300 | Theramore coast, Feralas coast | High-tier fish |
| The 300 push | Winterspring, Stonard coasts | Winter Squid, Night Fin, Stonescale Eel |
Three habits: keep a lure active at all times — paired with Luremaster the yield gap is 2x; Fishing + Cooking levels both lines together (Cooking 1-300); Stonescale Eel is the core material for alchemy's potion line — after 300, it is the money fish.
The Legacy line
Luremaster (fishing-exclusive), Working Overtime (+4-20% skill-up chance before the water greys out), Dedicated Study (daily +1). Full table on the Legacy page.
