A note on framing: this comes from verbal remarks on the official podcast — an official signal, not a formal announcement. The final level is whatever ships.
Dual Spec's unlock level may be coming down. On episode 3 of the official WoW Forever podcast, while discussing tanks, Josh Greenfield noted that Dual Spec "currently" unlocks at level 40 and that the team is evaluating the right level — at one point musing, "maybe a cheeky thirty, I don't know, we'll see."
Why it matters: Dual Spec lets you keep two talent builds and swap freely, but unlocking at 40 means your entire leveling journey runs on a single build. For tanks and healers that's especially awkward — you level fastest as DPS but want a defensive/healing setup for dungeons, and before 40 the only answer is paying for respecs and running back to a city trainer. A level-30 unlock would land right in the dungeon-leveling sweet spot: one build to quest, one to queue — no more choosing.
Keep the framing in mind: these are podcast remarks ("we're talking about it" plus a joking guess), not an announcement — but "we're evaluating" makes a change look likely. We'll follow up the moment it ships.
Practical advice for levelers: don't spend your talent points into a corner just yet, especially if you intend to tank or heal — keep some flexibility in the 30-40 range and set up your second build once the new level lands. Browse presets in the talent library, level with the leveling route, and check the FAQ for common questions.
