In vanilla-era games, profession choice mostly mattered after level 60; Forever pulls it forward — 600+ new recipes make crafting useful while leveling, the camp system lets every profession buff the group, blueprints lock advanced recipes behind dungeon bosses, and First Aid now owns the healing potions. This post covers where the benefits come from, then gives our pick per class.

Sourcing: recipe counts and Legacy perks come from our 12 profession leveling guides (beta datamining); camp objects and blueprints are community-guide tier, pending live verification; pairings are our editorial picks. Beta runs until October 21; Engineering and the "vendor favor" system are still in flux.

Three: per-class pairings (our picks)

Warrior — Blacksmithing + Mining

Self-supplied plate and weapons; the 203 new recipes include stat gear and repair tools (self-repair in the field). Sharpening Wheel buffs the whole camp. Warriors have no self-heal — max First Aid, it's the compensation patch.

Paladin — Blacksmithing + Mining (gear) / Alchemy + Herbalism (raid consumables)

Same logic as warrior, or go consumable-independent. Paladins can heal themselves, so First Aid stays optional.

Hunter — Leatherworking + Skinning (self-supply) / Engineering + Mining (PvP)

Leather self-supply until mail at 40, and LW's 289 recipes are the largest set in game; go Engineering for PvP. Pet tanking + Feign Death give hunters the lowest self-heal pressure in the game.

Rogue — Engineering + Mining

The classic PvP package: bombs and gadgets add the burst and control the class lacks. No self-heal — First Aid is mandatory. Skinning + Leatherworking is the budget alternative.

Priest — Tailoring + Enchanting

Self-supplied cloth + bags; Forever's enchanters can enchant rings (a Vanilla-era first) and craft staves. Tailor-DE loop levels both for near-zero cost.

Shaman — Leatherworking + Skinning / Herbalism + Alchemy

Leather-to-mail self-supply with the Tanning Rack unlocking advanced recipes; healers can go potion-independent instead.

Mage — Tailoring + Enchanting

The classic pairing still works: bags + cloth gear + ring enchants; mage food plus the camp cooking bonus feeds the whole group.

Warlock — Tailoring + Enchanting

Same as mage; Life Tap + bandages/potions means near-zero potion spending.

Druid — Herbalism + Alchemy / Leatherworking + Skinning

Consumable-independent (Bountiful Harvest doubles up on herbs) or leather self-supply — pick based on whether you want potions or gear money saved.

Four: the secondary trio — everyone takes all three

First Aid, Cooking and Fishing don't occupy primary slots, and all three got heavier in Forever:

  • First Aid: owning the healing potions makes it everyone's second health bar — mandatory for warrior/rogue/hunter;
  • Cooking: stat food with a leveling XP bonus plus campfire upgrades; level-300 food is raid currency;
  • Fishing: pairs with cooking (Bait Master double-catch); staple fish sell steadily.

Five: quick picks by goal

GoalOur pick
First character / pure levelingDouble gathering (Skinning + Mining or Herbalism) + Cooking
Gold-makingSafe: double gathering; bolder: Alchemy / Tailoring bags / rare Enchanting formulas
Raid prepAlchemy (consumables + camp lab) + your armor craft
PvPEngineering (being redesigned — recheck) + Alchemy
Multiple altsGatherers with Bountiful Harvest, crafters with overtime perks — supply your own account

Six: before launch

  • Engineering is being redesigned — the 80-recipe strength rankings can shift; we'll track it;
  • First Aid/Fishing full recipe tables aren't fully revealed;
  • "Vendor favor" currency details may change crafting economics;
  • Camp buffs and blueprint drops are community-guide tier — we'll verify on live.
