Note: this lead was originally published on October 12, 2026 by wow-forever.gg — a data-mining recap, not breaking news.
wow-forever.gg has surfaced a set of friend-system strings in the WoW: Forever beta client, and the headline is that Blizzard's universal player identifier — the BattleTag — appears in Forever's friend-invite copy for the first time. Everything below is data mining; Blizzard has not announced it.
What the new text says
- A description line: "Send an invite by entering their BattleTag to chat with them in game and across all Blizzard titles. The recipient must accept the request to become friends."
- A plain "BattleTag" label.
- An input prompt: "Enter character name or BattleTag" — the same field appears to accept either.
- An error line: "Requests are only valid with BattleTag or character name", so other formats would not be accepted.
What can be read into it
The key phrase is "across all Blizzard titles": if this copy ships as written, Forever's friend system may sit on Blizzard's unified BattleTag system — one BattleTag adds friends across games and carries chat with them. For players with an established Battle.net friend circle, that means starting Forever without rebuilding the list from zero; old friends remain reachable whichever game they are in.
Two more details stand out. First, the copy explicitly requires the recipient's acceptance before you become friends — the consent step is written right into the product text. Second, the field takes either a character name or a BattleTag, so same-realm friends can keep using character names while cross-realm and cross-game contact needs the BattleTag — a design that touches group organizing, friend-list management, and privacy (one BattleTag spanning every game).
Interface strings are not the shipped feature, of course: where the entry point lives, whether it is fully enabled, and how it integrates with the existing social panel all remain to be seen. We will follow future builds.
